The Richmond Fire Protection District provides 24 hour per day, 7 days per week fire protection and Advanced Life Support EMS emergency care for the residents of the Village of Richmond and surrounding McHenry county area.

Richmond Fire is a combination department.  This means that we have full-time employees, Paid-on-Premise employees (who work in-station shifts) and Paid-on-Call employees (who respond to the station when there is an emergency. ) The fire station is staffed 24 hours a day, 7 days per week with fulltime and paid-on-premise personnel.

The department currently has a combined roster of 40 personnel.

Fire Protection Service
Richmond currently has two fire engines, a 3,500 gallon water tanker for non-hydrant areas, a 110' ladder truck for fire/rescue, a rescue squad for car crashes, and a brush truck for grass fires.  Richmond is a member of MABAS Division 5 and has an ISO rating of 6.

Emergency Medical Service
Richmond is a member of the McHenry - Western Lake County EMS system which is based out of Northern Illinois Medical Center in McHenry, IL. Richmond has two Advanced Life Support ambulances which respond with paramedics and EMT's.  Paramedics are "in-station" 24-hours a day.

If you have a medical emergency, you should immediately call 9-1-1.  Residents of the Richmond Township Fire Protection District are not charged for ambulance service.

Richmond is currently one of only a few fire departments in all of McHenry County who are using state-of-the-art ECG monitors that are capable of performing 12-Lead interpretations.  This capability is extremely valuable for a person who is having a heart attack.  Early identification of a possible heart attack, "in the field", informs the receiving ER with greater detail of a potential cardiac alert.

Fire Prevention Bureau
Richmond has a new Fire Prevention Bureau, which is headed by Doug Halverson, Fire Marshal.  Along with the well-known fire prevention programs that are delivered to the children of our district while at school, new programs are in development for families and seniors.

Fire inspections and plan reviews are also handled through the fire bureau.  Richmond Fire does some in-house plan review and works with an independent company for other plan reviews and some inspections.  The cost for plan reviews are billed directly to the person or company requesting the review.

CPR Classes
CPR classes, are taught at our fire station.  This class is directed towards the average resident with no prior knowledge of CPR through the American Heart Associations' "Family and Friends" curriculum.
